Creative Hiatus

Well it's been a very long time since I have blogged and I don't think I have touched card making supplies in 3 months and have only dabbled here and there with jewellery. It seems my creative interests go in cycles and right now I'm stuck on photography...night photography to be exact. I've been driving around at all odd hours of the night, scouting out different places to practice my photography skills. Two things I have learned is 1) the weather at night drastically varies from one place to another (we're talking kilometres here) Yup, lots of places that would be perfect for shots have fog at night. 2) For someone who is terrified of the dark, taking night photos isn't exactly the most relaxing hobby. I have come up with an easy solution for number 2, which my husband laughed wholeheartdely when I told him what I was doing. I have figured out the art of raising one's tripod through the sunroof of my car, with camera attached and therefore eliminating the need to get out of the car in the dark :) I live in the countryside and have heard too many packs of coyotes over the years (and at areas I have taken photos) to ever want to step foot out of my car. If I'm lucky though and the skies are clear and on an evening that my hubby doesn't have to work the next day, then I'll just drag him along with me, which enables me to actually get out of the car. He is the dedicated super flashlight holder and noise maker to scare off any wild creatures.

Anyways, here are some of my favourite shots
over the past 3 months, enjoy!

Sun rays through the tree

Moon and sunset

Milky Way over the Atlantic Ocean
Star Trails

Pinks and purples of northern lights on top of cell tower hill
Lonely bird on a wire at sunset
Selfie with rising sun
Headlights of truck flying by with Milky Way

Thanks for stopping by and have a great creative week!

First Russian Spiral Rope

I have discovered a new hobby of beading and find it to be quite relaxing. Lately I have been on a kick to try new beading techniques. Last month I tried a new beading stitch called Russian Spiral and made a rope necklace. To top it off I paired in with a beaded owl pendant that I got from a tutorial from Etsy. The owl design is by Assza and you can find her Etsy shop here. The owl was really detailed and after re-trying sections that I kept messing up on, I finally finished it and was so happy with the way he turned out!

The rope necklace was the perfect compliment to this little guy!

The necklace is done entirely with black beads and finished off with a rhodium plated tierracast toggle clasp and measures about 18.5" in length.

Needless to say, I am addicted to russian spiral necklaces now:)

CAS(E) this Sketch Challenge #117

Welcome back to another week at CAS(E) this Sketch! This will be my last challenge as a design team member. I've been finding it harder to find time to make cards and keep up with blogging because I have been busier with work and making jewellery, but hopefully I'll find time to participate with a challenge once and a while :) There is a great sketch to try this week, check it out...

I went with a easter card and one layer. I stamped eggs from a Close to My Heart stamp set I have in various shades of blue and yellow and then added an embossed frame around the edge.

We would love to have you play along with us this week. It's been great sharing inspiration with you for the past couple of years!

CAS(E) this Sketch #115

Well after being snow bound for a day and a half it was nice to get out today! Snow days are perfect for making cards though. Check out the CAS(E) this Sketch Challenge sketch to play along with this week...

I decided this week to pick through my basket of technique pieces I've been hoarding. Usually when I try a different technique in card making I end up with extra pieces or pieces that don't quite fit the project I'm doing, basically a basket of odds and ends. I found a quilted block (the exact name of the technique escapes me) and paired it with a matching button and label maker sentiment for a quick and easy card.

We would love to have you play along with us this week. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

CAS(E) this Sketch #114

It's finally starting to warm up a bit here in Nova Scotia, but I just heard there is another snowstorm coming for the weekend :( The time changed, so the days are longer and I won't complain about that. Feel like making a card this week, then head on over to CAS(E) this Sketch and check out this sketch!

I used a technique that I learned in stamp club recently that was perfect for this sketch. It's very simple. Cut three rectangles and stack them on top of one another and stamp your images. Then separate the rectangles and mount them on card stock. Re-align them back together as your front card panel so the images line up and then stamp your sentiment.

CAS(E) this Sketch #113

Welcome back to another week at CAS(E) this Sketch! Check out the lovely sketch to try out this week...

I flipped the sketch this week and went with something wintry and at this point in winter nothing warms you up better than a cup of coffee!

CAS(E) this Sketch Challenge #111

Well, I must say that was an interesting storm this past weekend here in Atlantic Canada. Sunday turned out to be the perfect day to stay indoors and craft all day! Check out the sketch to try this week  at CAS(E) this Sketch...

I went back to one of my favourite simple colour combos; black and white with a pop of red. I used a Hero Arts stamp that I haven't touched since I bought it and came up with this 2 layer card.

Come on over this week and join in on the fun, we'd love to have you play along!
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!
